Heya. A couple days ago, my sister’s husband physically assaulted her in front of my nieces. She filed a police report and he was jailed. He got out on bond and the state is pressing charges. They have a no-contact order. He got to the bank account before she did and withdrew half of what was in there. She’d like me to reach out and ask him to return some, without specifying a dollar amount, as there are three of them and one of him. Thoughts? Also she knows she needs a lawyer but is afraid of paying for a shitty one- how do you go about finding a good lawyer? She’s emotionally vulnerable while going through this and needs someone who actually cares about what she’s going through and will be excellent at communicating about her case. Is that too much to ask? Maybe. Tell me if so. It’s helpful to know what to expect. I’m posting with her permission. She says she doesn’t know what she doesn’t know, and she needs to know what to do. So if anyone has any “don’t forget to…” or “make sure she….” Please let me know. She’s going to try to get in to see a doctor, she had a friend take photos of the physical damage, she took out the rest of the $ in the account and set up a new bank acct. She is going to print out bank statements. Should she change the locks on the house? It’s just so much to do that it’s easy to miss something…
